I've Been Infected!! ( 5 Facts About Me)

Here are the directions (according to Tripp): "Write 5 randoms facts about yourself, and then list the names of 5 whom you in turn infect. Also, leave a post to these people letting them know they have been infected."

Well I don't know how to do the last 2, so I will leave it up to one of the guys (or gals)to show me.

Here it goes...

1. I've always wanted to be a Rhythm and Blues singer. I don't have the proper vocals for pop music or any other genre. Yet singing the blues (in private) is much like reciting a poem or reading a letter. It's the passion behind each word and content that makes each song and it's lyrics. As you all know it's mostly about sorrow and struggle.

2. I have a soft spot for Senior Citizens. I enjoy spending time with them and hearing stories of their past and their eras. I've been told I have an "Old Soul" and I truly believe I was born too late.

3. I have an emotional attachment to all animals. So much so that I prefer their company over anything else. Animals touch me in a way no human possibly can. (get your minds out of the gutter)

4. When I was 18 I experienced a tragedy that has lingered and believe will affect me for the rest of my life. I wish time travel was possible. My life has taken a different turn since then.

5. These past years I realized how important Family and Friends really are. How just being a good person in "my little world" isn't enough. I realize that people I never thought would be there for me in time of need HAVE BEEN without question. And mostly I realize that life is too short and because of that CHANGE IS COMING!!! (love ya G)

Absolutely Fabulous!!

"Hurricane"
"Salt Island"
"Island Panoramic"

I'd thought I'd share the most beautiful photography I have seen of this island. His name is Gary Felton. Read on.....

Photographer Gary Felton’s life has revolved around the visual and sensory experiences of the sea, and producing arresting images of the ocean and all that is related to it. A professional sailor and vessel captain for may years, Felton combines artistic sensibilities, photographic expertise, marine knowledge, engineering training and most important, a passion for the ocean, to create award-winning photos. The California native became the youngest diving instructor in the United States in 1967 and studies Oceanographic Engineering at the University of California. In 1973 he received his BA from Brooks Institute of Photography. His interest in research photography led to winning 14 underwater photography contests in two years. He continued to pursue his dual love of photography and the ocean, to include a position as photo editor of Dive magazine, prior to relocating to St. Thomas in 1986. His images have appeared in Cruising World, Sailing, Yachting, Sport Diver, & US News & World Report. Felton’s work is not only limited to the sea. He is a leading commercial photographer in the Virgin Islands, photographing just about everything from scenic scenes to jewelry. In the spring of 2003 he was awarded 3 Gold medals and a silver in the ADVI awards for photography and design.

The Cuban Celebration..

Throughout history Mubans (cubans from or that have resided in Miami or central area) have celebrated the bountiful harvest with their own version of thanksgiving ceremonies.

The ceremonial tradition is to invite any family member, friends and the like form all over. Hialeah, Miami Springs, Souwesera.. Etc..
It begins with the purchase of any Instant meal in a box they could find. (after all who wanted to spend all the time in the kitchen) Mashed potatoes, stuffing and yes even the pumpkin pie filling. All purchased at "El Puble" or "Winn Dixie" Of course there were certain tribal members from Coral Gables that actually made things from scratch but those were just Mubans (pretending to be"Americanos" ) and felt it was their duty as new foundland members to "fit in" These members when surrounded by their own kind slipped into a time warp and blended in with the rest.

Turkey was served, but the main course had to be accompanied by una "pierna" or a lechon cooked for endless hours in a hole in the ground in a "caja china" (in some unfortunates family members home) Landscaping what not an issue for this tradition. This tradition entailed many Male Mubans surrounding this site. Numerous beers consumed.. Usually Busch and Michelob or the infamous Cuba Libre . These males would sit around reminiscing the old days in the mother land where everyone was a Scientist, a political figure or political prisoner and a physicist. No one was a blue collar worker in Cuba.. EVERYONE was an aristocrat. Children were not allowed to take part in this event unless the elder of the family chose a child and enticed them try the pig tail .. And witness this creature cooking in the heat and blazing fire below. Usually it is the child that had this pig running around their own backyard and named him "Piggy".
As the children ran in and out of the home and played silly games the females gathered inside strutting their newly purchased outfits and discussed recent purchases and recent home improvement projects. A tour of the hostess home usually took place while she explicitly discloses how much every item cost her .
Oh the story topping each took part in. Who could forget the gossiping of the friend or family member that did not attend. This made for entertaining conversations. The joy of this gathering..
The final preparation took place in the hostess' kitchen. In this room is where all took place. Wine and spirits were consumed while waiting for the feast that would take place at around 10pm or so. By this time card games and dominoes were played by the males as the females watched. Thanksgiving although never celebrated in Cuba became an intrical part of the Mubans lives. For this is part of their new lives and culture. They are thankful that soon in about a month "Noche Buena" will arrive and the festivities will all resume again.
So if ever a Muban is invited to a traditional American Thanksgiving and you notice some uncomfortable behavior. Fear not.. it is merely the realization of the misconstrued and disfunction of their childhood thanksgiving celebration.
For those that took advantage of the distant degree of separation applaud and embrace these individuals because til this day there is an invitation extended to each and every young adult Muban to attend this mind altering experience.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Fabulous Bags..Now get your own!!

I love, love, love my bags. You need to check out this site. I met the young lady that makes and designs these bags here in St Thomas. As some of you know (and have seen) now I will reveal where you can actually get one, two, or three. You can choose the style of bag you like then (this is the coolest part) you pick the fabric you like. She has many to choose from in her collection. I guarantee no one else will have anything like it. She also makes overnight bags, clutch purses and baby bags. No doggy bags yet so before you ask I have already emailed her about it. I'll be sure to let the "puppy" moms know. Click on the link below or on my link section to go directly to her site.

The Body Deli..Yummy Yummy

This place is heaven on earth. I love this store. The products are amazing. They are all natural and many even have expiration dates. Most of these items you'll have you to keep in your refrigerator, but I can't stress how incredible these products are. Their butter scrubs make your skin feel softer than anything else I have used. The natural fragrances puts any high end store item to shame. Check out their site. I believe they ship. I suggest the Thai Facial spritz and the Vanilla Butter srcub. I also like the Mint Julep Facial scrub. The stores design is just like a deli or ice cream shop. They have refrigerated glass displays just like a deli. You actually want to eat it instead of putting it on your skin. When you make your choice they scoop up your cream, scrub, or soap and fill it in a deli container. It will have a label with its ingredients and expiration date. Take out the credit cards and check books girls.. You will not be disappointed.

Season almost here

Soon we'll have to share our island with thousands of people. It's off- season now and it is quiet. You can actually frequent a restaurant or go the beach without a million tourists. Don't get me wrong tourism is a good thing. Especially here (it needs all the support it can get) Above is a picture of the harbor with 4 ships in. The queen Mary to the right (she is enormous and does not fit) they taxi people in via water taxis. When we have this many ships on island it can take us forever just to get to the other side of the island. I'd opt for walking but are you kidding me?? It is a mountainous island with steep hills. Besides are you kidding me?? WALK??
At night this view is awesome. I'll try to find a photo and post it.

Spurs in St Thomas

The San Antonio Spurs have announced that the team will hold its 2005 training camp at the University of the Virgin Islands at the school's St. Thomas campus. The team will hold its annual media day at the Airport Embassy Suites in San Antonio at 11:00 a.m. on October 3 before departing for St. Thomas.
The Spurs will hold their entire training camp on the island with the first practice scheduled for October 4. The team will depart St. Thomas on October 13 and travel directly to Columbia, South Carolina for a preseason game there against the Philadelphia 76ers on October 14.
The team's daily practice schedule will be announced at a later date. All practices will take place at the Sports and Fitness Center located on the University of the Virgin Island's beachside campus. Practice sessions will be closed to both the media and the public.
The Spurs will be the first NBA team to travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
"This is a very exciting event for everyone in the Virgin Islands," said Peter Sauer, the Athletic Director at the University of the Virgin Islands. "We are thrilled that an NBA team is coming to our community. The fact that it is the San Antonio Spurs makes it even sweeter. For the last 10 years the Spurs have served as the model franchise in the NBA. Not only do they win on the court but they do everything the right way, from their ownership to their basketball staff to their players and front office."
The University of the Virgin Islands is an accredited U.S. college with approximately 2,700 students spread over two campuses, one located on St. Thomas and one on St. Croix, which is where Spurs forward Tim Duncan was born and raised.
"We've always thought about holding training camp in the Virgin Islands," said Spurs General Manager RC Buford. "It certainly is something that is very important to Tim Duncan. But we really think it'll be a great experience for the entire team."

I am officially a "Nerd"---Scrabble

Ok those of you that know me well also know that I am a sucker for games. I dont have high speed internet where I am so I have settled for the Old school games.

Check out this site. You can only play with one other person, but there are people from all over. You play with a timer and you select the time span for your game. I like to play short games. I must warn you that this is addicting. It can take over your spare time (in between blogging) You can chat while you play or observe other games. I have been playing for quite some time (can you say....LOSER!!!!) My handle is "nyls" (yes I said handle) I have easy tips and list of words that you can use. I play the tournament ledger version. Which means you can only use words that have been used in a tourny. I have the list and can tell you how to get it. You can just alt+tab while you play so you have a guide. If you join find me I am on almost every night (again can you say... LOSER!!!) Just let me know in advance what your handle name is so we can play. Hope you join..

see ya

You must Cultivate yourself in Idle time... The Famous "Willy T"

Short version:

Famous Architect.. Had something to do with the design of our Capital. Read about him it is actually quite interesting.. Bla Bla Bla

This is the floating Bar & Grill William Thorton (Willy T's) at Norman Island. For those who are brave enough to jump naked off the back of the boat (about 1 1/2 to 2 stories high) and get out of the water, walk back into the bar/boat still naked, go to the bartender and show all, you get a t shirt from Willy T's staff for your efforts. (if you look closely, there is someone at the back of the boat ready to take the dive. )

Believe it or not I actually jumped off this vessel. Of course I had my suit on... It is definitely a must if you visit. The food is actually pretty good. You can only get here via boat. At lunch time this place is crazy. It is packed to the "gills" all kinds of boats tie off and then you just jump from one boat to the other until you finally step on the Willy T dock. It is actually amazing how many people frequent this place. A must after boating all day.

I posted a nudie shot (for the boys) .

What was Jeff thinking???

Ok here I am attempting to actually climb this. BUT!!! I am wearing a skirt and who am I kidding.. ME CLIMB???

So after some thought it hits me.. What is a good, pen pushing Jewish boy doing climbing a cliff when we are the only ones here... Needless to say it did not happen. (at least not here)

This place is called "The Point" it is right across the bay from where we live. We can actually see our house from where we were. It is very cape codish.. Waves splash against the rocks and the view.. Oh the view.

No Phones, No Television Sets, Just Champagne and Lobstah!!!!

Last year a group of 30 traveled via boat and chartered planes to come to this paradise for Erika's Birthday. It is on British Island territorry. There isn't much to do here except.. party.

The honor system is in place here. You take what you like from the bar and write it down on your tab. No Bartenders no one to bother you. There are no locks on your doors so you dont have to worry about room keys. The population on this island is about 200 or so. We will be visiting this paradise again in a few weeks. I can't wait. This place is typical island life! This year will not be as large of a crowd but I am guessing about 20. There are only 3 hotel/motels here. So needless to say every room was occupied by someone in our group. You are asked in advanced what your dinner choices.
Choices: Losbter, Lobster or chicken.

So Lobster and Champagne it was!!

I will post the pics so keep checking.. I'll even post the bad and ( "I can't believe I did that pics for all to see)

Ahhhh No Boundaries

Ever wondered what and where an actual Corona commercial must have been like?

I've traveled and appreciated many places and I have seen many sights. I must say The place where I now call home is ranked #1 in my book. Life happens here too, but boy is it great to be in paradise on my "off time"
